Venice Film Festival 2023: Hesitation Wound (Orizzonti) | Interview of Selman Nacar

We were delighted to sit down with director Selman Nacar for a chat about his brilliant Hesitation Wound which world premiered in the Orizzonti strand of the 80th Venice Film Festival.

We had the pleasure of meeting and interviewing Turkish director Selman Nacar about his latest, Hesitation Wound, which celebrated its World Premiere at the 2023 Venice Film Festival, within the Orizzonti section.

In Selman Nacar’s Hesitation Wound, attorney Canan takes on a murder case in a morally corrupt city while dealing with her comatose mother, delivering a powerhouse performance that unravels the city’s greed and inequality. Nacar’s tightly woven plot reveals the abuse of power and gender inequality in Uşak, Turkey, as Canan, an outsider, dives into the investigation. The film’s intricate narrative metaphorically mirrors the country’s state, and Canan’s character evolves, ultimately using her own “smoking gun” to challenge the oppressive forces of wealth and authority, making her a symbol of progress and opposition in a compelling and thought-provoking story.
