Cannes Film Festival 2022: Summer Scars | Interview of Simon Rieth

We interviewed Simon Rieth, director of Summer Scars (Nos Cérémonies), presented at the 61st Critics’ Week at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival.

One of the highlights of the 75th Cannes Film Festival was the screening of Summer Scars (Nos Cérémonies) at the 61st Critics’ Week – a bold and original debut feature by French director Simon Rieth, whom we had the pleasure of meeting.

Brothers Tony and Noé pass the long, sweltering summer days playing games of chance and death… until the accident that will change their lives forever. Ten years later, now young adults and back in Royan, they cross paths with Cassandra, their childhood love. But even after all this time, the brothers are still hiding a secret…

The result is a well executed fantastic movie that indubitably marks you. We were thrilled to sit down with director Simon Rieth for a rich and insightful chat about the making of the film, his inspirations, his work with non-actors, his directing habits and vision.
