The Directors’ Fortnight (La Quinzaine des Cinéastes) is an independent section held during the Cannes Film Festival. It was created in 1969 by the French Directors Guild as an alternative to the festival’s official selection, showcasing a selection of feature films, short films and documentaries from around the world. The Directors’ Fortnight has become known for its eclectic programming and its focus on discovering new talent. Over the years, many notable filmmakers have presented their work at the Directors’ Fortnight, including Werner Herzog, Jim Jarmusch, Spike Lee, Sofia Coppola, and the Dardenne brothers. The section has also helped to launch the careers of many emerging filmmakers, such as Alejandro González Iñárritu, Ken Loach and Martin Scorsese.
