Food and Films are on the menu in Bergamo
A selection of 50 films dealing with the topic of food will be screened during the 7th edition of the Food Film Fest in Bergamo, Italy.
Food, films and Italy sound like ingredients of a delicious recipe! A delicious recipe that Bergamo audiences will be able to enjoy from August 20th to 24th. Started in 2014, the Food Film Fest Bergamo has been showcasing films tackling themes such as gastronomy, culture or food insecurity, and offering food and wine testings besides the screenings.
This year, out of 620+ submissions, the organizers have put together a selection of 50 films, split in 4 categories: Food Movie, Documentary, Animation, Short Advertising.
Below are some highlights from the different categories.
Food Movies
-
A Family Tradition (Dir. Giuseppe Cardaci, Italy): t’s Mauro’s first birthday since his wife passed away. His two daughters, Giulia and Clara, don’t seem to agree on a way to celebrate it: one wants to continue with mum’s tradition, while the other wants to do something new. Either way this will be the chance to finally reveal a secret and find all together the carelessness that had been lost.
-
Luchi (Dir. Rwik Ghosh, India): It is a story about a famous bengali delicacy and human relationships.
Documentaries
-
Even Fish Cry (Dirs. Francesco Cabras and Alberto Molinari, Italy): The documentary tells the story of the Adriatic sea through the voices of fishermen, environmentalists, researchers and artists; a sea that has always preserved a great treasure of biodiversity but which today finds itself impoverished due to overfishing. The film is a compelling and evolutionary portrait of how it is still possible to protect the sea and transform the activities that depend on it into sustainable ones.
-
One Year in the Apiary (Dir. Zsolt Poroszka Magyar, Hungary): As the New Year begins, a new chapter begins in the lives of the beekeepers and the beekeeper. Because beekeeping is a serious job. It requires multi-directional knowledge and great practice at the same time. Mental and physical work at the same time.
-
The Boss (Dir. Mehdi Balamissa, France): At dawn, while the neighborhood is still asleep, a few people are quietly entering a mysterious, busy lighted place. Inside, a man is cooking the bread dough prepared by his son. This duo of men then fills crates with warm bread, which, a third man known as “the boss”, regularly comes to pick up so as to deliver the bread in town, using his bicycle. At dawn, this trio of craftsmen are spreading their humble production throughout the city and its homes.
Animated Films
-
Apfelmus (Dir. Alexander Gratzer, Austria): While two birds talk about their existence, a small apple makes its way into the depths of a cave under watchful eyes.
-
Gaijin Sashimi (Dir. Erik Vos, Netherlands): A Dutch boy is looking for his sashimi cutting technique. In the teachings of a Japanese sensei he finally finds the form in his own culture.
Short Advertising
-
Let’s Reduce Food Waste! (Dir. Karina Gonzales, USA): The project is about the outcome of food waste that exists within food production around the world. My project sheds light on the food that is wasted and the cost there is to pay of continuing such a wasteful cycle. It seeks to convince the public that there are multiple ways to reduce food waste in our everyday lives. It gives viewers alternatives like composting food scraps instead of tossing them in the garbage where they are transported into a landfill.
-
Italian Oil Journey (Dir. Eleonora Mozz, Italy): Advertising spot on the use of Italian oil. A rhythmic and young editing, well fnished photography. From thebasic element to the essence of Italianness.
