Doc Edge Festival 2024 Unveils Exciting Lineup: the New Asia Pacific Hub for Documentary
The new Asia Pacific documentary hub, Doc Edge Festival, announced 66 titles including 10 world premieres ahead of its 19th edition, et to enchant Christchurch, New Zealand (19-30 June 2024).
One of the most anticipated events on the festival circuit this year is the 19th edition of the Doc Edge Festival, which promises to be the ultimate gathering for the documentary industry in the Pacific Asia region. Based in New Zealand, established in 2004, the Doc Edge festival is entering a significant chapter in its history by kicking off this year in Ōtautahi Christchurch, on the South Island of New Zealand, before heading to Auckland and Wellington later on. As a media partner for the 19th edition of Doc Edge, Film Fest Report will have the pleasure of offering you an exclusive on-site coverage of the festival, from June 19 to June 30, 2024.
This year’s program features an impressive lineup of 66 local and international films, including a number of world premieres: Mauri (Maurizio Benazzo, Zaya Benazzo), Pistachio Wars (Rowan Wernham, Yasha Levine), Poised (Toby Robson), Ice Maiden (James Blannin-Ferguson, Nathaniel Jackson), Renee Gracie: Fireproof (Frances Elliott, Samantha Marlowe), The Day the Music Stopped (Yariv Mozer), and Sharko (Luke Graham).
Notable highlights from the film program also include Spontaneous Combustion by Bruce Robert Foster, Palestine’s 2024 Oscar entry Bye Bye Tiberias by Lina Soualem, revealed at the 2023 Venice International Film Festival, to be screened along with Annie Sakkab’s remarkable short film, The Poem We Sang, debuted at Hot Docs 2024, which is a tribute to memory, resilience, and the dignity of a people facing injustice and brutality. The program also includes Subina Shrestha’s Devi, which premiered at Hot Docs 2024, powerfully exposing Nepal’s silenced female voices in the aftermath of war. Audiences will also enjoy Sally Aitken’s Every Little Thing, a captivating documentary filled with humanity and compassion, following a dedicated character rescuing injured hummingbirds in Los Angeles, California. Another highly anticipated title is Mozart’s Sister by Madeleine Hetherton-Miau, set to celebrate its world premiere at the upcoming Sydney Film Festival 2024.
In addition to this rich and exciting program, Doc Edge’s Immersive Exhibition will showcase 31 digital immersive projects, offering audiences a unique and interactive experience. Moreover, the Schools program will feature 20 curated films tailored for students, providing educational and thought-provoking content.
