Motovun Film Festival 2022

Motovun Film Festival 2022: Interview of Jury member Piotr Domalewski

We were lucky to chat with Polish director Piotr Domalewski who served as jury member of the 2022 Motovun Film Festival in Croatia.

“A festival with a soul.” The motto was aptly chosen to describe the special atmosphere one can enjoy at the Motovun Film Festival, “a cozy spot for those who enjoy the magic of cinema,” as pointed out by the festival’s team.

Like every year since 1999, the Motovun Film Festival hosted, from July 26th to 30th, 2022, film lovers who could rest their souls and enjoy themselves in a beautiful spot under a mild summer night sky, in the small Croatian town of Motovun.

This year, the program offered audiences a high quality film lineup, including, among others Alli Haapasalo’s excellent and beautifully written Girl Picture (Sundance, Berlinale, IFF Cologne…), Panah Panahi’s award winning Hit the Road, Cannes 2022 titles such as Mario Martone’s Nostalgia, Tarik Saleh’s Boy from Heaven or ‘Un Certain Regard’ winning film Rodeo, by Lola Quivoron, or even War Pony, by Riley Keough and Gina Gammell, which swept the main award from the 2022 Motovun Film Festival.

We were thrilled to attend and cover the 2022 edition of this one-of-a-kind celebration of cinema in Croatia, and got the chance to sit down and chat with Piotr Domalewski, whose debut feature, Silent Night (2017), won the Grand Prix in Gdynia, as well as Best Film, Best Director, Best Screenplay and the Discovery of the Year Award at the 2018 Polish Film Awards. Piotr is also a writer for theatre. His play Five Square Meters won the Audience Award at the Polish competition for playwrights ‘Metaphors of Reality’.
