We interviewed the filmmakers behind ‘Bleeding Audio’, a refreshing, riveting music documentary by Director Chelsea Christer, presented in official selection at the 2021 Slamdance Film Festival.
Only eight feature documentaries made it to the official selection of the 2021 Slamdance Film Festival, kicking off on February 12th, 2021 and running until February 25th, 2021. Among them is Bleeding Audio, a refreshing, cathartic and exhilarating music documentary directed by Chelsea Christer. The virtual festival will run February 12-25, 2021. There will be a two-night drive-in presentation in Joshua Tree, CA open to the public February 13-14, and closing in Los Angeles February 25, 2021.
Bleeding Audio tells the story of “The Matches”, the famous alternative punk band from Oakland, California. Not only does the film feature personal and intimate interviews with The Matches band members themselves but also dozens of well-known musicians contributed their own interviews to the film, such as, Mark Hoppus (Blink 182), Nick Hexum (311), Tom Higgenson (Plain White T’s), Simon Neil & James Johnston (Biffy Clyro), Cassadee Pope (Singer/Songwriter), Justin Pierre & Tony Thaxton (Motion City Soundtrack), to name a few. “The Matches were always a band for me that was like, how is this not massive? I remember seeing them live for the first time, and I was like this show is awesome. This should be in an arena. I felt like I was experiencing history in the making.”— Cassadee Pope (Singer/Songwriter).
With Bleeding Audio, Chelsea Christer managed to craft an entertaining, at times heartbreaking, documentary about the ups and downs of the career of “The Matches”. What is more, the director shot the film folding in the theme of the financial sustainability of artists in the music industry. Overall, Bleeding Audio is a creative and powerful tribute to a music band like no other.
The film already won the Audience Award at SF Doc Fest, Dances with Films, Cinequest Film Festival and Lake County Film Festival, and was also an official selection at the Denver Film Festival and Oxford Film Festival.
