Trieste Film Festival 2023

Trieste Film Festival 2023: Interview of Andrea Segre (Trieste Shines at Night)

We met Andrea Segre, co-director of Italian documentary Trieste Shines at Night, presented at the 34th Trieste Film Festival.

As official media partner of the 34th Trieste Film Festival, we were delighted to attend the Italian festival in person and discover Trieste Shines at Night (Trieste è bella di notte), a brand new, powerful documentary feature directed by Matteo Calore, Stefano Collizzolli, and Andrea Segre. We were excited to sit down with co-director Andrea Segre for a chat about the making of Trieste Shines at Night, and his experience at Trieste Film Festival.

In Fernetti, at an internal EU border between Italy and Slovenia a few kilometres from Trieste, migrants who managed to cross the border are stopped by Italian law enforcement and sent back, without being identified and without the option of applying for international protection. In Trieste Shines at Night; together with images captured on mobile phones by the migrants themselves during their long journey, their stories of rejection and readmission are intertwined with the ongoing contradictions and debate happening within institutions.

Film Fest Report is excited to team up with the Trieste Film Festival, as official media partner for the 34th edition of the festival.
