Exclusive: Poster for Cannes 2024 Short Entry Ootid by Eglė Razumaitė

The much-anticipated Ootid (Ootidė) from Lithuania is among the 11 films vying for this year’s Palme d’Or for Short Film at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival.

Tallinn-based Varicoloured, a short film sales, distribution, and production company known for handling Simone Massi’s In quanto a noi, which premiered at the 2022 Venice Film Festival in the Out of Competition section, has acquired Ootid by Eglė Razumaitė, slated for a world premiere at the 77th Cannes Film Festival, held from May 14 to 25, 2024. Ootid becomes the second short film from the Lithuanian industry to be selected for the Official Selection at the Cannes Film Festival after Cherries in 2022.

This year’s lineup features 11 films from 10 countries, with Belgian actress of Moroccan and Spanish descent Lubna Azabal, known for her roles in Cannes competition film Exils (2004) and triple Un Certain Regard titles Sofia (2018), Adam (2019), and The Blue Caftan (2022), presiding over the jury. She is joined by Heaven Will Wait helmer Marie-Castille Mention-Schaar, Italian programmer Paolo Moretti, French producer Claudine Nougaret, and Serbian director Vladimir Perišić, whose latest film Lost Country premiered last year in Cannes Critics’ Week.

The official synopsis for Ootid reads: “Girls at summer camp discuss different versions of what happened to one of their friends who had to leave the camp and go home.”

Born in 1993 in Vilnius, Razumaitė obtained a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from Vilnius University in 2016 and holds a master’s degree in film directing from the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theater in 2024, supervised by Marija Kavtaradzė (winner of the Sundance 2023 Directing Award for Slow) and Laurynas Bareiša (winner of the Orizzonti Best Film for Pilgrims at Venice in 2021). Her directorial works include Notes from the Underground and The Fall, which entered the Clermont-Ferrand Short Film Market last year. Ootid is produced by Lineta Lasiauskaitė and co-produced by Gabriel V. Soucherye, with Smiltė Einingė, Auksė Bružaitė, Liepa Paliulytė, Ema Venckutė, and Emilija Sabaliauskaitė leading the cast.

Film Fest Report is thrilled to unveil the exclusive poster for Ootid ahead of its premiere next month.
