Cannes 2024: Our Writers’ Top Picks

Besides Sean Baker’s triumph, the 77th Cannes Film Festival dazzled with cinematic brilliance across every corner of the Croisette, with our writers’ top picks highlighting the standout films.

The 77th Cannes Film Festival concluded with the announcement of the awards on Saturday, May 25, 2024. The jury, led by Greta Gerwig, awarded the Palme d’Or to American filmmaker Sean Baker for his film Anora, a Cinderella-esque journey of a sex worker against all odds. While the awards highlight certain tones and themes, they only scratch the surface of the cinematic brilliance showcased over the fortnight, not only in the main competition but also in Un Certain Regard, Directors’ Fortnight, Critics’ Week, and ACID.

For two weeks, our journalists roamed the streets of Cannes, from Théâtre Croisette to Grand Théâtre Lumière, savoring the festival’s selections. Our comprehensive coverage can be found here.
