IDFA 2021: Interview of Rintu Thomas and Sushmit Ghosh, directors of Sundance Winner ‘Writing With Fire’

We were delighted to interview the co-directors of Writing With Fire, presented at IDFA 2021, after a tremendous success on the festival circuit, and two Awards at Sundance 2021.

As part of our coverage of IDFA 2021 (International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam), running in Amsterdam from November 17th to 28th, we were delighted to enjoy on the big screen the marvelous Writing With Fire, directed by Rintu Thomas and Sushmit Ghosh, after discovering at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, where it took home two major Awards: the Audience Award for the World Cinema Documentary competition, as well as the World Cinema Documentary Special Jury Award: Impact for Change.

Standing out as one of our festival highlights, and one of our favourite documentaries in 2021, Writing With Fire is presented as part of IDFA’s Best of Fests section, given its tremendous success on the festival circuit on the wake of its premiere at Sundance in January 2021, with selections at Hot Docs or DOC NYC to name but a few.

The film introduces us to a cluttered news landscape dominated by men, where India’s only newspaper run by Dalit women emerges. Chief Reporter Meera and her journalists break traditions, redefining what it means to be powerful.

Discover the words and passionate insights of co-directors Rintu Thomas and Sushmit Ghosh in our interview.
